Building and running Guided Rounds
Convert repeatable operational requirements into an ordered route of accountable actions that can be assigned, completed, skipped with reason, and reviewed.
Before you begin
- Relevant animals, Housing, tasks, or facility requirements already exist.
- The acting user has permission to view and complete the included work.
- Any Spatial Route used by the Round is active and appropriate.
- Critical actions have clear completion evidence and escalation expectations.

Build the reusable definition without claiming that any work has occurred.
Perform and confirm one step at a time. Open linked animal or Housing context before acting when needed.
Use the completed run to improve the template and follow up on unresolved work.
Step-by-step workflow
Choose the Round’s purpose
Define whether it is for routine care, sanitation, BioShield, inspection, continuity, emergency reference, or another supported workflow.
Select the scope
Filter the exact animals, Housing, rooms, requirements, or route stops the Round should include.
Order the actions
Arrange work in a practical sequence. Use Spatial Routes when physical order, sanitation, or restricted movement matters.
Set recurrence and responsibility
Choose when the Round should appear, who can perform it, and which actions require acknowledgement or escalation.
Preview before activation
Review generated actions, context, duplicates, workload, and prerequisites. Remove only work that truly does not belong.
Run and confirm each action
Open the Round, perform the real work, then mark complete. Use skip or blocked with an accurate reason when work could not be completed.
Review the finished Round
Inspect exceptions, missed actions, duration, evidence, and follow-up work. Improve the template without rewriting the completed run.
Expected result
The Round preserves an ordered record of assigned work, actual completion, skipped or blocked actions, timing, and supporting context. Unfinished work remains visible for follow-up.
Safety boundaries
- Opening a Round does not complete its actions.
- Do not bulk-complete work that was not individually verified.
- A skipped critical action requires an honest reason and appropriate follow-up.
- Route order must not override BioShield or emergency restrictions.
- PMA guidance does not replace professional animal-care or facility procedures.
Troubleshooting
No actions were generated
Check the template scope, active requirements, recurrence window, animal and Housing status, and required permissions.
The route order is unsafe
Stop the run, review BioShield and sanitation constraints, and update the route or template before continuing.
A completed action still appears due
Confirm the completion saved successfully, the action matched the correct requirement, and no separate recurring instance is due.
